Seattle Washington has many districts, one of the most popular of these is known as the University District or "U District". The University of Washington, home of the Huskies, is the location for which the district is named. The boundaries of the university district are informal. It is sandwiched between I-5 on the west and 25th avenue NE on the east. It is bordered on the south by Washington Ship Canal with University Way NE as the main commercial street. It is casually referred to as "The Ave". Also, in the U District is The Village. It is the cities upscale shopping center. The Univcersity District is located in close proximity to the world famous Pikes Place. This out door market is known for their fish market and the location of the original Starbucks coffee house. Some of the events held here such as the annual U District Fair held each May and the University District Farmers Market. This market is Seattle's first and largest local farmers-only neighborhood market. Locations to visit while in Seattle are the unofficial landmark for the U District is The Blue Moon Tavern and Big Time, the cities original Brewpub. The UW Tower and Hotel Deca can be found in the neighborhoods vast skyline.
